Vacancy: Supervisory Board member – focus on HRM & Governance
Organisation
NLR – until No Leprosy Remains – (in the Netherlands better known as Leprastichting) has been committed to the fight against leprosy with heart and soul for more than 50 years. And with reason, because the efforts have proven effective. Thanks to early detection, treatment and cure. Thanks to information and training of health workers to recognize leprosy timely and to fight discrimination and exclusion. Thanks to preventive treatments of close contacts, leprosy can be prevented by as much as 60%. In addition to providing support, NLR also funds scientific research for innovative breakthroughs in leprosy control.
NLR fights leprosy with alliance members in Mozambique, India, Indonesia, Nepal and Brazil and with international partners. About 40 employees work at the international office in Amsterdam and 200 employees work at the alliance members. The country offices are currently transforming into NGOs with local accountability (Nepal, Indonesia and India are already independent).
NLR is an ANBI with CBF recognition and receives the support of 46,000 private and leading institutional donors, including the Dutch Postcode Lottery. The annual income is approximately € 10 million. NLR is active in national and international networks and has a leading role in the International Federation of Leprosy Organizations (ILEP).
Supervisory Board
NLR is governed through the Supervisory Board/Board of Directors model. The daily management of the organisation lies with the CEO who is accountable to the Supervisory Board. The CEO has management responsibility and directs the management team. The Supervisory Board consists of six members, each with their own area of expertise. The Board supervises the management and policy of NLR. The duties of the Board include: employment of the CEO, supervision and control of management, reviewing decision-making and solicited and unsolicited advice to the CEO. We work with an annual agenda that is based on the annual policy and control cycle.
Supervisory Board members have managerial and/or supervisory qualities and an affinity with the objectives and mission of NLR. The council is a close-knit team in which the members know each other well and in which everyone’s input is respected. Openness, involvement and reflection are expected from members. The supervisors pay attention to social developments from an international perspective and therefore literally and figuratively look beyond borders. They have relevant social, business and/or political networks and are prepared to use these for the benefit of NLR. They are happy to be a sounding board for the management team.
